Anticorruption court to be created in Moldova

A specialized anticorruption court will be founded in Moldova. According to the concept presented by the President’s Office, the judges of this court will examine all the cases handled by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and all the challenges referring to documents issued by the National Integrity Authority, including applications to confiscate unjustified property, IPN reports.

The cases pending at other courts will be transferred to the specialized court. The transfer of cases that are at the judicial examination stage (after first, preliminary stage) will take place based on clear reasons.

The court will have at most 15 judges who will be chosen at a contest by the Superior Council of Magistracy and will be named, including by transfer, by the President. For selection purposes, the Council will have additional powers to determine the integrity and probity of candidates. The court will effectively start work when at least four judges are appointed.

The judges of the anticorruption court will have a salary close to that of a judge of the Supreme Court of Justice after the reform, of about 45,000 lei. The pays of clerks and assistants will also be significantly increased. As additional guarantees, the judges will benefit from state guard at request and service apartments, in the case of judges who do not live in Chisinau.

The President’s Office calls on those interested to present proposals and recommendations over the concept until June 23. The bill on the creation of the anticorruption court will be submitted to Parliament for consideration, while the public consultations on the draft law will be held on the parliamentary platform.
