The Anti-mafia People’s Movement seeks to become a political party with a stated intention of eliminating mafia in Moldova. Its leader, Sergiu Mocanu, held a press conference on Wednesday, March 2, to declare that Moldova lost control over its borders, the capacity to ensure justice and lacked structures capable of fighting organized crime and mafia. The inaugural assembly of the new party will take place on Sunday, March 6, at “Ginta Latina” Cultural Center, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Politicians and party leaders failed to deliver a clear message against mafia and we’re all now suffering the consequences. The same politicians shirk from saying the truth. Our electoral message is timelier than ever. The Communist regime’s heritage is a difficult one for Moldova. We need measures and systemic changes”, said Sergiu Mocanu. Daniela Bodrug, member of the new party, said the Movement had brought to the public syndicate schemes from the very beginning, with names of important people involved. “We didn’t come with imaginary or populist stuff, but with concrete information and direct messages and we’ll continue likewise”, she said. Another member, Viorel Topa, declared the change promised by the Alliance for European Integration didn’t occur. “We have the same butchers in the law enforcement structures. They weren’t simply kept in function, but even promoted by the Alliance, which lied to us shamelessly. In economic structures, the so-called red directors, the base of the previous regime, all kept their positions. Moreover, they were reappointed by the Alliance”, said Viorel Topa. Gheorghe Susarenco stressed that since AEI came to power, the need for a party to fight mafia became urgent. “Even the Communists, during their 8 years in charge, didn’t dare to get hold of Moldtelecom, of banks, to openly rob the people”, Susarenco said, criticizing the Alliance. “We want to get evil out of this country, to make changes so that people didn’t have to leave. We’ll make those responsible for our country’s decline pay”, said Nicolae Discount, another Anti-mafia militant. Anti-mafia Movement launched a campaign of collecting signatures at the end of January to register as a party. Overall, it gathered 5,000 signatures in 25 districts of Moldova. The Congress of Anti-mafia People’s Movement will take place on Sunday, at 11 AM, at the “Ginta Latina” Cultural Center.
