The parliamentary diplomacy between Chisinau and Washington must play a major role in the bilateral relations, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu stated in a meeting with Speaker of the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress Paul Ryan, while in the United States on a visit, IPN reports.
In connection with the 25th anniversary of the declaration of Moldova’s independence, Andrian Candu said the parliamentary alliance in Chisinau is firmly determined to support the Government to assume and implement reforms with a national impact, to fight grand corruption and to create an appropriate legal framework for developing the business climate and facilitating the western investment climate in the country.
The Moldovan official underlined that the Government of Moldova wants to develop the relations for establishing a transatlantic bilateral partnership in the political, economic and social spheres. He also informed about the intention to constitute a joint commission for strategic dialogue “ProAmerica” on parliamentary platform. He said he counts on the personal support of his counterpart Paul Ryan in the efforts to resume the work of the Moldova – U.S. intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation, which will directly contribute to the intensification of the bilateral commercial-economic relations.
Andrian Candu voiced hope that after the House of Representatives elections of this November, the continuity of the work of the Group of Moldova’s Friends in the U.S. Congress “Congressional Moldova Caucus” will be ensured. According to him, the strengthening of this Group will contribute to the promotion of the bilateral relations.
The Moldovan Speaker invited his U.S. counterpart to pay a working visit to Moldova.
For his part, Paul Ryan inquired about the internal developments in Moldova in the area of security, the 5+2 Transnistrian conflict settlement talks and the contribution of the German OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office.
The U.S. official assured that they will continue to support the Government of Moldova in its efforts to strengthen the rule of law, including in the process of doing reforms in key areas. He accepted to make a visit to Moldova and the region when it will be later agreed.
