Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu said he came to vote in order to bring the instability at the City Hall to an end. He noted that his choice wasn’t easy because during the election campaign, especially during the past week, he saw different debates, but these didn’t center on the affairs of the City Hall and the city, but rather on political subjects, IPN reports.
Andrian Candu said the Chisinau City Hall lacked efficiency in the recent past. “However, I hope that when the election outcome is made public and the mayor takes up his duties for at least one year, until the next ordinary elections, we will start to feel the efficiency and the care for the city. I hope a lot that the one who will win today, and this should be the best and the most popular one, will bring things at the City Hall in order,” stated the official.
A number of 634 547 ballots were printed for the mayoral runoffs. Of these, 408 080 are in the Romanian language. There is no minimum turnout of voters required for the runoff vote. The candidate who gains the largest number of votes emerges victorious. The elected mayor will hold office for a year, until the local general mayoral elections of 2019.
