Andrei Stratan takes part in 118th Session of CoE Committee of Ministers
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Andrei Stratan is participating in the 118th session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe held in the French city of Strasbourg during May 6-7. On May 6, the Deputy Prime Minister had a meeting with the CoE Secretary General Terry Davis, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communiqué from the Moldovan Foreign Ministry, Andrei Stratan informed the interlocutor about the progress made in adjusting the national norms to the European standards and in implementing the EU Moldova Plan of Action. Also, the minister spoke about the encouraging developments in promoting the Moldovan president’s measures aimed at building confidence between the two banks of the Nistru. Andrei Stratan assured that Moldova will continue making effort in order to identify a definitive solution to the conflict at the talks in the 5+2 format, by preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The two officials agreed on the importance of the Council of Europe’s contribution to Moldova’s European integration and its territorial reunification, the communiqué says.
At the 118th session, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe will discuss such current issues as the CE’s contribution to joint stability and security, the progress in implementing the Memorandum of Understanding between the Council of Europe and the European Union signed at the previous session of the Committee of Ministers of May 2007, the strengthening of the human rights protection system of the Council of Europe. The attending delegations will pronounce on the documents worked out within the CoE. There will be adopted the draft European Convention on Child Adoption and the explicative report to it.
At the present ministerial session, Sweden will take over the presidency of the CoE Committee of Ministers from Slovakia.
