Andrei Nastase alleges who is behind Platon’s arrest

The arrest of Veaceslav Platon by the law enforcement bodies of Ukraine was possible owing to the close relations between the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova Vladimir Plahotniuc and the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the chairman of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase said in the program “Fourth power” on N4 channel, IPN reports.

“Platon had done what he wanted in Chisinau during about four years and nobody did him something. Now, he was arrested in a record time. Platon knows a lot and tried to speak. Therefore, Plahotniuc ordered his arrest. Platon admitted that he bought the shares of Plahotniuc in Banca de Economii and was then forced by this to sell the shares to Ilan Shor. Platon could also reveal information about Plahotniuc’s involvement in the laundering of over US$22 million from Russia through the Moldovan banking system. It’s known that Plahotniuc and Poroshenko are close and have common businesses,” stated Nastase.

According to him, a correct investigation of the bank frauds can take place only if an external inquiry is held. “The prosecution service, which is controlled by Plahotniuc, will never prosecute this. For a correct investigation to be conducted, the law enforcement agencies of the U.S. and the EU should become involved,” said the politician.

He denied that businessmen Victor and Viorel Topa, who allegedly finance the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, are investigated by German prosecutors, as the mass media reported. “This is not true. The subdued media outlets presented an older answer from diplomatic correspondence given as a result of multiple requests to extradite them. These requests were rejected. Victor and Viorel Topa do not intend to leave Germany,” he stated.

Andrei Nastase assured that neither he nor the members of the administration of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” are blackmailable. “I do not have a skeleton in the closet. I’m a jurist and I earned everything legally. When I formed the Platform, I asked everyone if they have something to hide and advised them to withdraw,” said the politician.

Ex-MP Veaceslav Platon was put on the wanted list by the Moldovan prosecutors after discovering a connection between the extended investigation into the bank frauds and the transiting of money from another country through a Moldovan bank based on court orders. According to prosecutors, the given actions were planned by businessman Veaceslav Platon, who was arrested in Kiev on July 25.
