The events of the 27th year of independence strengthened the failed character of the Republic of Moldova, political analyst Anatol Țăranu  stated when he was asked by IPN enumerate the most relevant events or actions that strengthened or, on the contrary, weakened the values of democracy, independence and the rule of law since the previous anniversary of Moldova’s independence.

According to Anatol Țăranu, in the absence of the territorial integrity of the state and massive depopulation, with a society without democratic traditions and with weak state institutions, with political parties constituted around leaders, not doctrines, the Moldovan political class pursues the major goal of not safeguarding the national interest, but only of acting as an instrument in the struggle for resources. Against such a background, a government system without real electoral legitimacy and without legal constraints was created in the Republic of Moldova. This is easily managed from a distance by minority groups with flat identity that are not somehow connected with a coherent national agenda and that do not identify themselves with this.

The analyst considers the chronic shortage of political culture and democratic traditions can make the opposition act without a sufficiently coherent and electorally attractive program, without a list of demands that can be negotiated and without a negotiator-leader, seeking only “Moțoc’s head” in a trivial language, without clearly understanding how to annihilate the system that can be immediately reconstructed under a different name.

The situation worsens owing to the fact that the whole scrape is not the result of the lack of political culture only. It is the state of a society that is seriously fragmented by ethnic-cultural criteria in a state-problem without national-state identity. This situation is perfectly exploited by “fishermen in turbid waters” who can easily promote their interests in a politically unstable environment, negotiating with a weak state. The most evil interests are hidden behind high ideals. The difficulty of this situation is understood by everyone, but the problem is not tactical, but strategic in character.

According to Anatol Țăranu, at a distance of 27 years of the declaration of Moldova’s independence, we have to ascertain that the existential confrontation between the national Romanian identity and the Soviet colonial non-identity in Moldovan society, dressed in clothes of vulgar Moldovenism with false statehood pretentions, hasn’t been yet dealt with. There is a harsh struggle between national democracy and anti-national plutocracy. It is not only about the fighting of local corruption, but also about the avowal of the authentic Romanian national identity and the building of a national European state with appropriate living standards based on this.
