The president of the National Liberal Party Ludovic Orban tendered his resignation from the post of Prime Minister of Romania on December 7. Political analyst Anatol Țăranu said this resignation is a performance for the Romanian political system, IPN reports.

“I think Ludovic Orban acted as a European politician. This is how the European party leaders usually act when they do not achieve the announced result. We should congratulate Mister Orban on this performance. He acted in a European style,” Anatol Țăranu stated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

Anatol Țăranu considers the mandate of ex-Premier Orban was a difficult one as they had to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic and he was even overshadowed by the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis.

“I think Ludovic Orban was one of the successful presidents of the PNL. He is the one who achieved results for the PNL. Orban had a very difficult mandate, during a period when the pandemic started and economic and social problems appeared. He had to pay for all these crisis elements, but politics is very harsh. By this resignation, Orban removes particular pressure from Klaus Iohannis too. We must understand this. Orban was a party president who had been permanently overshadowed by another party president, Klaus Iohannis,” said Anatol Țăranu.

The analyst noted that as a result of the presidential elections of December 5 – 6, Romania aligned itself with the European tendencies of having anti-system parties in institutions.

“Ludovic Orban acted in a European style and the Romanian voters acted similarly. AUR – the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians – that now generates so much interest and debates is nothing else by Romania’s aligning with tendencies that exist in European politics – anti-system parties in Europe. Let’s remember AfD in Germany, Le Pen’s party in France,” said Anatol Țăranu.

Romanian expert in political sciences Iulian Fota stated that the Romanians in the parliamentary elections were to decide the country’s direction, but this didn’t happen owing to the low voter turnout.

“The purpose of elections is to make the politicians realize what the people want and what direction the people what the country to follow. The people should vote to tell us clearly what Romania’s development direction is. Last Sunday’s vote didn’t resolve this dilemma, this preoccupation. After this vote, we don’t know the direction the Romanian people want Romanian to follow,” noted Iulian Fota.
