An opposition political party is displeased with the way the leadership of the country celebrated May 9

The Social Liberal Party is deeply dissatisfied with the way the leadership of Chisinau celebrated the Victory Day - May 9. This day marks the end of the war and the Day of Europe, not only “the end of the great war for the defense of the motherland”, declared at a press-conference the leader of SLP Oleg Serebrian on Wednesday, May 10. According to the social-liberal leader, “without a victory over fascism we could not have had today the Europe as we know it and the European Community.” Regardless of this fact, states Serebrian “the leadership of the country celebrated this day in a soviet manner, in a way this day was marked only in the Russian Federation and Belarus. We have nothing against commemorating the victims of that war; the problem is that instead of celebrating the end of the Second World War, authorities celebrated the end of the Great War for defending motherland”. According to Serebrian, spending fabulous sums of money for reconstructing the Memorial, the “Stahanovist” work rhythms, the way May 9 was celebrated are nothing else than “some disgusting acts”. The quoted source declared that in the last weeks the leadership from Chisinau promotes a subtle anti-Romanian policy. Serebrian mentioned as examples to endorse this statement the insistence to change the Romanian history course with the integrated history course, rejecting by the communist MPs 2 draft laws regarding the translation of movies shown in Cinemas into the state’s language and regarding the compulsory character of knowing the state language for the members of the Govern, the problem created around the “Gheorghe Asachi” Lyceum etc.
