The private individuals who cross Moldova’s borders should know that they can take up to five liters of beer and up to two liters of wine, unfermented wine, strong alcoholic drinks, liquors or other alcoholic beverages through the border. Moldova’s legislation also allows crossing the border with up to 50 cigars or cigarillos and up to 200 cigarettes from tobacco or tobacco substitutes. However, the persons should take into account the legislation of the countries to which they go. For example, the EU member states can be entered with 40 cigarettes, or 20 cigarillos, or 10 cigars, or 50 grams of tobacco.

In a response to an IPN inquiry, the Customs Service says the private individuals can declare verbally personal belongings introduced into the country, whose value in the customs does not exceed €300 and that are not intended for commercial or production activities. The Moldovan citizens until now could take goods to the value of up to €300 into or out of the country without paying customs duties. Now they could cross the border with goods of €800 without paying duties. The decision was taken by the Government, but is to be passed by Parliament.

The goods whose value in the customs does not exceed €1,000 and that are intended for commercial or production activities can also be declared verbally.

The private individuals can cross the customs with at most three knitted or crocheted clothing articles and accessories, three watches and four pieces of eyeglasses (correction, protection or other types) and similar articles, three units of leather articles, such as travel bags and other similar goods and one article of natural or artificial fir.

Also, a person can cross the border with two pairs of shoes, two cell phones, one sound recording device, one sound reproduction device, one video camera and one piece of reception apparatus for radiotelephony, radiotelegraphy and radiobroadcasting.
