Members and supporters of Moldova Noastra Alliance picketed the Parliament Friday “to say adieu to the Communist-Frontist Legislature.” Meanwhile the parliamentarians gathered for a festive closing sitting of the fall session. “Although under Constitution Moldova is a parliamentary republic, in fact Moldova is run by a single man: the president. Vladimir Voronin instituted his personal dictatorship in the country, while speaker Marian Lupu has remained alone without any power to impose himself as the Constitution empowers him to,” said Oleg Cernei, a Chisinau councilor of AMN. Carrying placards, the protesters chanted “Down with the Communists”, “Iura and Vova stole Moldova” and sang deprecative carols to the parliamentarians of the ruling party. The protesters have said the country does not needed a parliament “made of traitors, cowards, and partisans making the Communists game.” “It was the Christian Democratic People's Party which usurped the power, shared spheres of influences and robbed Moldova,” said young AMN members. Sergiu Baltaga, the president of AMN's youth organization, says the youths had to get to the street because the Parliament has impoverished the young generation, whose parents are abroad. AMN proposes to conclude a pact in the run-up to the elections and then after the elections with the democratic parties in order to create a majority in the future legislature.
