The amendment to the Financing Agreement between Moldova and the European Commission concerning the Contract for strengthening the state and building resilience for Moldova to the value of €75 million was signed. Together with the €60 million budget support adopted at the end of last year, this brings the European Union’s total budget support package for Moldova to €135 million since December 2021, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the budget support will help the Republic of Moldova to deal with rising energy costs and to support the long-term socioeconomic recovery, energy security and energy transition. In particular, it will help the most vulnerable segments of the population. This support is expected to be delivered in one tranche by the end of the month, following the fulfillment of particular conditions.
The decision to initiate the negotiations and to approve the signing of the amendment to the agreement was taken by the Government on July 13.The support provided by the EU and its member states to Moldova supplements the €150 million Macro-Financial Assistance Program, the €43 million in emergency assistance for managing the flow of refugees and the €31 million offered in the form of essential products, medicines, generators intended for Ukrainian refugees.
