Ambassador of Lithuania in Moldova: We hope citizens will support European course

“As representatives of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova, we want the citizens at the snap parliamentary elections to support the European course,” said the Ambassador of Lithuania in Chisinau Kestutis Kudzmanas. According to the diplomat, the presidential elections of last November showed that the citizens want to come closer to the European Union, while the snap elections of this July are an occasion for choosing the path of reforms, IPN reports.

The ambassador denied the accusations of the leader of the PSRM Igor Dodon, who earlier said the diplomats of the EU member states interfere in the country’s domestic policy. According to him, the European Union always spoke about the necessity of implementing the provisions of the Association Agreement, not only in the election campaign.

“Seven years ago, the Republic of Moldova signed the Association Agreement and our natural interest is for all the commitments undertaken by the country to be fulfilled. The elections have a direct connection with the process of doing reforms. Evidently, the voters will be those who will decide. Our expectations are very clear. We want progress to be made on the path of European integration. We expect the citizens of the Republic of Moldova to support the European course,” Kestutis Kudzmanas stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

He noted the snap parliamentary elections are an opportunity for continuing the changes started at last year’s presidential elections. “At the presidential elections, we convinced ourselves that citizens’ priorities changed compared with the previous years. The citizens pleaded for a European course. We evidently have particular conditions and abide by the principle “more for more”. We expect the justice sector reform to be done and will be later ready to offer macro-financial assistance as the European Union wants to see prosperity in its neighborhood,” stated the Lithuanian diplomat.

Kestutis Kudzmanas said his country stands ready to intensify the commercial relations with the Republic of Moldova, especially in the IT sector and in food industry. The Lithuanian authorities are near the Republic of Moldova on the path of reforms and this fact was confirmed by the recent visit to Chisinau paid by the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda.
