The alternative fuel available in the municipality of Chisinau is sufficient for at most 15 days, period during which the local authorities will try to insure the smooth running of the public institutions and maintain the temperature of heat in the apartments connected to the centralized heating system at the minimum required level. The statement was made by the Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca at the meeting of the municipal Commission for Emergencies, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The Commission adopted a set of measures designed to alleviate the consequences of the crisis that will follow if the gas supply is not resumed. The measures include the provision of medical and social assistance to the population, especially the invalids, the old and solitary persons. The classes in the Chisinau education establishments and in the municipal settlements affected by the halt in the gas supply will be suspended. The mayors’ offices will provide accommodation to the persons that will be incapable of heating their dwellings. At the same time, the patients of the Children’s Hospital of Contagious Diseases will be transferred to other hospitals. The residents of the Chisinau municipality will be informed about the activities carried out by the municipal mayors’ offices through mass-media and emergency units. The Chisinau Emergency Department will work round the clock in this period, while the institutions that provide public services will exchange information under an emergency regime. If need be, a nonstop work timetable will be drawn up for these services as well, Dorin Chirtoaca said.
