Alliance for Centenary convenes Great Assembly for March 25

The Alliance for the Centenary that consists of a number of unionist organizations stages the Centenary Great Assembly in Chisinau on March 25 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Great Union. The citizens who support the idea of Moldova’s union with Romania are expected to come to the square of the Academy of Sciences or to the Lyceum “Gheorghe Asachi”, the University “Ion Creanga” or the Circus at 11am. The participants will march to the Great National Assembly Square where a symbolic statement on the union with Romania will be adopted at 12 noon.

The statement will be reproduced and copies of it will be sent to the Parliaments of Moldova and Romania, foreign embassies working in Chisinau, international organizations and development partners to take attitude to these wishes of the Moldovan citizens.

Vlad Biletski, chairman of the public association “UNIREA - ODIP”, in a news conference at IPN on March 14 said that even if the Socialists are trying to organize a counter-demonstration at the monument to ruler Stephan the Great near the central square of Chisinau, the unionists will not yield to provocations and will demonstrate peacefully. He called on the young people to come to the demonstration in a large number as it is about their future and the development prospects of this state.

Ion Leashchenko, chairman of the National Unity Bloc “BUN”, said the largest unionist demonstration in Moldova’s history will be held on March 25. Over 100 communities and institutions signed symbolic statements on the union with Romania so far. “The citizens of the Republic of Moldova can no longer live divided. They deserve to live better,” stated the BUN leader.

According to George Simion, head of the unionist platform “Actiunea 2012”, Romanian nationals will also take part in the event and this means that Romania and its citizens also want the union with Moldova. “If the Great National Assembly Square is full on March 25, all the Romanians will act to achieve this wish of the Moldovan. Sooner or later, we will merge into one state,” stated George Simion.

“I call on those who feel they are Romanians to come and show that we are united and solitary and that we are those who want to have a powerful country, where our citizens will enjoy better living standards,” stated the mayor of Puhoi village of Ialoveni district Petru Frunze.

Mayor of Cimislia Gheorghe Raileanu said each day of delay in achieving the union goal is a blow for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and the future of the country’s children. He called upon the citizens to mobilize and come to demand the union so as to have another, better life.
