The supposed killer hired to murder the Deputy Speaker and leader of the Christian Democratic People’s Party (PPCD) Iurie Rosca had talked over the phone with the former head of the Security and Information Service Valeriu Pasat, the president of the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) Serafim Urecheanu and the AMN MP Ion Plesca for many times. Related statements were made by the Prosecutor General of Moldova Valeriu Gurbulea and Deputy Minister of the Interior Valentin Zubic at a news conference on January 15, Info-Prim Neo reports. Valeriu Gurbulea said that on November 20, 2008, the Prosecutor General’s Office instituted legal proceedings over the alleged assassination attempt on the PPCD leader on the basis of the information provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Later, Iurie Rosca received a phone call from a person who said that he was ordered to kill him. The killer said he changed up his mind. Valentin Zubic stated that with the help of the phone decoding and antenna reference points, they established that the killer entered Moldova and had been in Chisinau. It was determined that Iurie Rosca was phoned while the killer was leaving Moldova through Criuleni district, heading for the Transnistrian region. The suspect made numerous calls to mobile and fixed-line telephones inside the country and outside it. The names of other interlocutors have not been made known for inquiry interests, Zubic said. The alleged killer was not caught. “We established yet that he phoned Pasat, Urecheanu and Plesca. Thus, Rosca’s version formulated at the start of the investigation that the mentioned persons could be the organizers of the murder attempt was confirmed,” the prosecutor general said. Previously, Rosca informed the Prosecutor’s Office that Ion Plesca threatened him with death during a plenary sitting of the Parliament by showing with his had that his head will be cut off. The Interior Ministry and the Prosecutor General’s Office found the Chisinau apartment leased by the supposed killer. Upon a search of the apartment, the police discovered a Bereta pistol, topographic maps indicating the head office of the PPCD and Iurie Rosca’s place of residence, photos of him and of his car. They also found a letter that allegedly was addressed to Iurie Rosca though the name of the addressee was not indicated. The author says in Russian, in a criminal jargon, that the murder was ordered through the agency of people of the criminal said ‘the Bulgarian”, who is also called ‘Grisa’ and worked for a former security agent who is now in Moscow and who paid the money for the murder. A legal case was opened in 2005 over a murder attempt on the PPCD leader involving the criminal Grigore Caramalak and the former SIS head Valeriu Pasat. Therefore, the two cases have been merged. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Ion Plesca rejected the accusations. The AMN MP considers that this is a scheme planned by Iurie Rosca. “We possess information that he went to the prosecutor general and asked him to stage an attempt on him so as he could pass the election threshold. In 2001, Rosca said that the Communists wanted to kill him. In 2005, in order to justify his betrayal of April 4, he said that it was Pasat that wanted to kill him. He also staged the kidnapping of Cubreacov. Now something else,” the MP said. Plesca accused the prosecutor general, saying that he lacks professionalism and should be held accountable. “We will inform all the international organizations and ambassadors. At least the electorate will clam down,” Plesca said. Serafim Urecheanu and Valeriu Pasat could not be found for comments.
