The 1,988 polling stations in the country, including 30 for citizens from the Transnistrian region, were opened at 07:00 a.m. Abroad, the voting process is in full swing at 38 polling stations. At another 135 stations, voting has just begun, the chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Angelica Caraman said, quoted by IPN.
"Today the Republic of Moldova continues the democratic exercise that is essential for its future in the runoff presidential election. Our citizens are expected to make their electoral choice both at the polling stations in the country and at those established abroad," the CEC chief said.
The basic electoral lists, for the runoff election, include 2,707,641 voters. Voting-eligible citizens, both those who are in the country and abroad, can vote with the identity card of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova, and the document must confirm the domicile or temporary residence of the voter within the area of the polling station. Also, voters can vote with the provisional identity card with mentions about the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, domicile or temporary residence of the holder, or with the passport of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova, including with an expired period of validity.
The CEC head said that the Moldovan citizens will be able to vote abroad at 228 polling stations, in 37 countries. The voting process is in full swing at 38 polling stations abroad, namely in Japan, China, India, Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, Belarus, Qatar, the Russian Federation, Turkey, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Greece, Israel, Romania, and Ukraine. Another 135 polling stations were established in Central and Western Europe.
Polling stations are open until 09:00 p.m.
