All the almost 2,000 polling stations were opened at 07:00 a.m., as required by law, Rodica Sîrbu, head of the Communication, Public Relations and Media Division of the Central Election Commission, confirmed for IPN.
The Commission is due to present details on the start of the voting process at a press conference at 08:00 a.m.
For the presidential election and the constitutional referendum, 2,221 polling stations were set up. Of these, 1,957 polling stations are in the country’s electoral constituencies and 30 polling stations of these are intended for voters from localities situated on the left bank of the Nistru. Another 234 polling stations were established for voting-eligible citizens who are abroad. Everywhere in the world, polling stations are open between 07:00 a.m. and 09:00 p.m., but the difference is made by the time zone.
Citizens can vote to exercise their right to vote by 09:00 p.m. However, the electoral office can decide to extend the voting deadline by no more than two hours to allow citizens standing in a line at the polling station to vote.
