All 1,958 polling stations opened

All the 1,958 polling stations established for the general local elections of November 5 were opened at 7 a.m. The suspension of voting was announced in a polling station in Cantemir town for the reasons that the ballots there need to be reprinted. After the problem is remedied, voting will be resumed. The information was provided by representatives of the Central Election Commission in a press briefing on Sunday morning, IPN reports.

The Commission’s chairwoman Angelica Caraman said today’s elections are held amidst challenges as events that could have endangered the sovereignty and national security were witnessed during the last few days of the election campaign. But the authorities intervened to ensure the conduct of free, fair and transparent elections.

The registers of voters include 2 758 810 persons. The Central Election Commission printed 7 669 667 ballots, of which 6 068 878 are in Romanian, while the rest are in Russian. Voters can also request to vote at the place of residence on election day by submitting a request in written form, but with the presentation of a medical certificate. The electoral office will accept applications until 2 p.m.

Polls close at 9 p.m. Political campaigning on election day is banned. The elections in the constituency are considered valid if at least 1/4 of the persons put on voter rolls cast their ballots there.
