Alexandru Tanase: Igor Dodon uses presidential institution in party interests

President Igor Dodon’s decree to hold a consultative referendum to amend the Constitution, which was declared unconstitutional, actually promoted the interests of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), ex-president of the Constitutional Court Alexandru Tanase stated in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

“Those questions that were to be put in the referendum, the way in which they were formulated, showed that Dodon’s interests in the PSRM were being promoted,” stated Tanase.

The former president of the Constitutional Court noted Igor Dodon’s decree was a PR action for the PSRM before the upcoming parliamentary elections. “Igor Dodon issued an unconstitutional decree and didn’t expect that the Constitutional Court will take another decision than the taken one. I didn’t see Dodon being bothered by the Constitutional Court’s decision,” he said.

Alexandru Tanase accused Igor Dodon of groundlessly attacking the state institutions. “Dodon uses to attack any institution and any initiative that does not suit his and the party interests. When something does not suit him he attacks. He always uses the rhetoric that Romania is to blame. But this is completely untrue,” he stated.

The ex-president of the Constitutional Court considers Dodon makes effort to get more powers. “The Constitutional Court highlighted an interesting detail - Dodon assumed the powers of other subjects to amend the Constitution. Dodon wants a presidential regime to be established,” he said.
