Alexandru Arseni: Nicolae Timofti must name prosecutor general

Igor Dodon hurried to make statements before being inaugurated as President as it is Nicolae Timofti who must name the prosecutor general, constitutional law expert Alexandru Arseni stated in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

“Before the President-elect takes up his duties, Nicolae Timofti exercises the constitutional powers of Head of State. The appointment of the prosecutor general was scheduled for December 7, before Igor Dodon’s office is to be validated. If this event is put off, suspicions will appear as to the transparency of the process,” said the expert.

According to Arseni, Igor Dodon cannot ask for a rerun of the contest to choose candidates for the post of prosecutor general. “Dodon’s term in office hasn’t been yet validated. The courts of law are to examine all the complaints and afterward the Constitutional Court will decide whether to validate the office of the President-elect or not,” stated the expert.

Deputy Minister of Justice Nicolae Esanu in the same program said the legislation must be examined thoroughly so that the taken steps are strictly in accordance with the law.
