The Party of Socialists’ candidate for President Alexandr Stoianoglo said that the main reforms and European integration should focus on the internal modernization of the country. Everything that happened so far was nothing but a geopolitical game, without the current government having any real merits. According to him, these advances were possible only because of the terrible ongoing war in the neighboring state, IPN reports.

"I wonder for what merits Moldova was accepted as an EU candidate state. Have human rights improved? No, all rankings show the opposite. Progress in the fight against corruption? Not at all – the situation is bad. Freedom of the press? Not at all – the television stations are closed on a conveyor belt. All this shows continuous degradation," the election contestant said in a TV show.

In his opinion, under such conditions, it is impossible for Moldova to integrate into the European processes because a country cannot be integrated where dictatorship prevails.

The PSRM’s candidate reached the runoff presidential election after obtaining the second highest score in the October 20 election – 25.98% of the ballot. His challenger, the PAS’s candidate, incumbent President Maia Sandu gained 42.45% of the vote.
