"By remaining dominated by Moscow even after independence, the Republic of Moldova has become the poorest country in Europe, far from joining the EU, NATO and Romania. This is the opinion of Alecu Reniţă, journalist and politician, member of the first Parliament, requested by IPN to speak on the situation in Moldova today, 28 years after the proclamation of independence.
Alecu Reniţă reminds that, peacefully and legally, Romanian MPs from the first Parliament were supposed to deliver Moldova from the imperial prison. "The first Parliament had the calling of history, as well as a plethora of valuable members, who would have accepted death at the stake for national ideals." "In the days when despair was like a poisonous fog over the fiery confrontations of the plenary session on the seventh floor, and chauvinistic packs and stooges did not cease to attack us for our unwavering credo, we applied the secret weapon - we sang the anthem, "Wake up, Romanians! ” the former deputy recalls.
In his opinion, "you cannot talk about the first Parliament without mentioning the stooges and the pro-Russian MPs." "The truth is that they were part of the first legislature, although they never represented the aspirations of Romanian Bessarabia." "It would be stupid to let them sink into oblivion. They are alive, and their seed has not disappeared. They have been present in key positions and in all governments since independence”, Alecu Reniţă says.
Alecu Reniţă regrets that, for three decades, no scientific monograph or study appeared on the role and contribution of the first Parliament to the decommissioning of Soviet Moldova and the national revival. Instead, the former deputy says, dirty attacks have become the norm for the post-independence governments of treating the first extraordinary Parliament MPs.
