Moldova’s best tennis player Radu Albot was eliminated from the first qualifying round of the Wimbledon tournament, which is the third Grand Slam event of the year. He failed to qualify for the next round after he was beaten by Dmitri Zhyrmont of Belarus 4-6, 6-7, IPN reports.
Despite the defeat, Albot won €3,500. The winner of the competition will get €1.9 million.
Radu Albot is taking part in the prestigious London competition for the second time. Last year, he also was eliminated in the first qualifying round.
The Moldovan athlete earlier competed in another two Grand Slam events – the Australian Open and the U.S. Open. He has not yet taken part in the Roland Garros tournament.
In the new ATP world rankings released on June 17, Albot comes 195th, which is his best position ever. In 2013, he played in the final of a Challenger competition, this being his most important accomplishment in career.
