Agriculture Minister: We are in talks to improve microcredit conditions for farmers

These days, the Minister of Agriculture is having discussions with the Association of Banks to improve microcredit conditions for farmers. That is after previously, in a television show, Ludmila Catlabuga stated that she is dissatisfied with the banking service in relation to the farmers.

„We are in talks with the Moldovan Banks Association for a response on this issue”, Minister Catlabuga told IPN. The dignitary states that „banking system is on fairly high overprofit, - both commercial banks and microcredit organizations”.

At the same time, according to Catlabuga, the “minister does not have the right to dictate to banks to provide loans with 2% annually, for example, but it can be discussed with the Ministry of Finance, the National Bank and the improved relationship between farmers and banks”.

Concrete actions in this regard have not yet been taken, but the minister promises that at each meeting with farmers will be invited representatives of the Association of Banks.

Recently, Ludmila Catlabuga went on a visit to Leova to meet with agricultural producers in the region. The purpose of the visit was to understand the needs of agriculture, to find solutions and, in general, to improve the agricultural sector in Moldova, the minister said.
