Moldova and Ukraine will cooperate in the area of integrated border management, in combating organized crime and trafficking in human beings and in maintaining security and public order in the border area, through contact points on the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border. A draft agreement to this effect will be signed in Odessa in the first half of December, IPN reports.
Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean said the contact point cannot fulfill other duties than to exchange and analyze information and to generally assess the situation on the border. The information will be exchanged in written form, while when necessary to swiftly react to the change of situation also in verbal form. The experts involved in the analysis of information will be named by the sides, usually in conditions of parity.
According to Dorin Recean, the identified facts and phenomena will be assessed not from political, ethnic or other viewpoints, but only to the extent to which they do not infringe the order and security at the border.
The text of the accord was agreed in a round of talks that was held in Moldova’s Tudora in July. The agreement will be signed in a meeting of heads of the border institutions of Moldova and Ukraine.
