After talks with president, farmers will meet with prime minister once again

After a round of talks with President Maia Sandu, which they described as “tense”, farmers will meet with Prime Minister Dorin Recean once again on Thursday evening to discuss subsidies.

“First of all, we emphasized the fact that the relevant authorities acted very late and what we have anticipated since September is happening now. It’s a long overdue reaction. I found out with regret that the information that the minister (of agriculture) provided yesterday was a bit erroneous and there is no certainty that the European Union will allocate these funds to the Republic of Moldova”, the leader of the Farmers’ Force Association, Alexandru Slusari told reporters after talks with President Sandu.

For its part, the President’s Office said that all state institutions responsible for agriculture are looking for “realistic and viable solutions” to support agricultural producers.

Farmers held a tractor protest outside the Government building a few days ago, and today they drove their tractors on Chisinau’s main street, stopping in front of the Parliament building, where they discussed with Speaker Igor Grosu. The demonstrators are asking for support from the authorities in order not to go bankrupt.
