After three days ago the Party of Socialists (PSRM) asked the Constitutional Court (CC) to pronounce on the method of indexing pensions this year, a similar request to the Court was made by MPs of the Shor Party. These are dissatisfied with the fact that the pensions on April 1 this year will be indexed by 14.1% at a time when the rate of inflation at the end of last year was over 30%, IPN reports.
Before the CC’s building, MP Marina Tauber stated that the Party of Action and Solidarity shows disrespect for the pensioners. “Never in the history of our state did we have the pensions indexed by a lower rate than the rate of inflation. We do not speak about the increase in pensions, as those from the PAS promised in the election campaign. We speak about the indexation of pensions, when the pension is adjusted to the purchasing power following the rise in prices. The Government abusively broke the law,” stated Marina Tauber.
The MP expressed her regret at the fact that current government could not identity financial resources to index and increase the pensions, but found money to raise the budgets of the Parliament, the Presidential Office, the Government and the salaries of the employees of these institutions. “We hope the judges of the Constitutional Court will take sides with the citizens and will end the illegalities committed by those who are in power. For today, we planned a series of activities by which we want to warn the citizens and the international community about the developments in our country,” said Tauber.
The party announced that hundreds of people, mostly older persons, MPs, local elected officials and members and sympathizers of the Shor Party were today prevented by the police, on the instruction of the PAS government, from protesting next to the Parliament Building. “The participants in the protest wanted to go to the building of the legislative body to make themselves heard by the PAS parliamentary majority that last December adopted a law by which the indexation of pensions according to the rate of inflation was annulled,” the party noted in a press release.
