Affidavit mandatory for aspirants for "Pedagogue of Year" title

Teachers who will apply to take part in the "Pedagogue of the Year" contest will be obliged to make an affidavit regarding the absence of disciplinary sanctions. Amendments in this regard were approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, IPN reports.

Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun said that the "Pedagogue of the Year" is one of the most important competitions in which teachers participate and which recognizes their excellence. The proposed amendment derived from a situation witnessed last year. Then, it was reported that the winner of the title allegedly had disciplinary sanctions.

The official noted that by introducing the affidavit, the integrity of the contest will be fully ensured. Thus, there will be no doubts about the correctness of the process to decide the winners.

"This amendment will help to avoid in the future particular situations that happened in the past and comes to ensure the good reputation of the competition and the best teachers in the educational system will be celebrated every year," said Dan Perciun.

It was rumored that disciplinary sanctions had been imposed on the pedagogue who won the title of "Educator of the Year 2024". After a number of activists asked for the title to be withdrawn, the Ministry of Education set up a commission to examine the situation. But, after the examinations carried out, the commission did not find legal grounds for withdrawing the award.
