AEI leaders sign statement to support Dorin Chirtoaca in second round of voting
The leaders of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) - Mihai Ghimpu, Vlad Filat and Marian Lupu – signed a joint statement showing that they will support the Liberal Party’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca in the second round of voting. The leaders called upon the people to vote for democracy, a prosperous future and European values, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We come with a message of support for Dorin Chirtoaca. We agreed to make concerted effort to support our candidates in settlements and to constitute alliances in the district and local councils so as to have a democratic government,” said the president of the PLDM Vlad Filat.
The PDM head Marian Lupu stressed that the support measures will be aimed at achieving the common goal. “The result of the elections in the second round will be determinant not only for the residents of Chisinau, but for the subsequent political, economic and social situation, which will determine Moldova’s European course,” he said, calling on the people to take an active part in the mayoral elections.
The president of the PL Mihai Ghimpu expressed his confidence that Dorin Chirtoaca will win the elections. “We are very glad that our colleagues from the PLDM and PDM are near us and give us their support,” he said. He urged the voters not to regard the disagreements inside the ruling alliance as a major problem. “We are different and the parties are different, but we will be together when the future of this state and the people is at stake. This day and this moment prove this,” said Mihai Ghimpu.
He also said that it’s not possible to replace the Soviet foundation with a European one overnight. “But we will achieve this objective. We need only time and patience,” he added.
The statement reads: “The election of a Democrat mayor in Chisinau will increase internal social cohesion and will strengthen the EU’s support and sympathy for Moldova. Our common objective is to elect a Democratic, competent and efficient administration that is able to ensure stability in the capital city of Moldova, its harmonious and sustainable development, to support the European course of the Democratic government in general.” The people are urged not to believe the demagogy and populism and to participate in the second round of the mayoral elections.
