ACUM should accept discussions with PSRM, opinions

The electoral bloc ACUM (NOW) should accept to have discussions with the Party of Socialists (PSRM) following the confirmation of the results of the February 24 elections by the Constitutional Court given the existing possibility, even if this is a purely theoretical one, to remove the Democratic Party from power, said journalists and experts who took part in the program “Expertise hour” on Jurnal TV channel, IPN reports.

Journalist Igor Volnitski said the PSRM invited to discussions namely the bloc ACUM because the Socialists during the last few years not only once criticized the current regime, proposed simple motions and no confidence motions and it was logical for it to make such an invitation. “Most probably, the bloc ACUM will reject this invitation to discussions. There is a big difference between negotiations and discussions and the Socialists avoided using the term “negotiation”. The negotiations imply a process that starts from something and ends with something concrete, while discussions mean something else,” he stated, adding the Socialists seem to be paving the way.

Igor Volnitski noted a discussion between the bloc ACUM and the PSRM should take place as there is a possibility of removing the Democratic Party from power, even if this is purely theoretical.

Journalist Alexandru Cozer said the bloc ACUM underlined the return to the proportional representation system will be its first legislative proposal and it is normal for them to discuss with the Socialists as these are the only ones with whom such issues can be discussed. “I, as a supporter of the bloc ACUM voted for these people to enter Parliament and change something. If they act in the opposition and do not discuss with anyone, rejecting everyone, they will have no chance of changing something,” stated Alex Cozer.

Jurist Pavel Midrigan said the Socialists formally formulated a correct proposal and the ball is now in the court of the bloc ACUM. “If ACUM wants to form the opposition, it is their decision. Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, they could receive no proposals already,” he stated, noting if the bloc ACUM rejects the invitation to discussions, the Socialists could discuss with the Democratic Party.

The leaders of the electoral bloc ACUM DA PAS were invited to the head office of the Party of Socialists on March 12 at 3pm to discuss the establishment of political parliamentary cooperation relations. The invitation was made by the PSRM’s secretary for ideology Ion Ceban in a press briefing on March 11. Later the same day, representatives of ACUM said an answer will be provided in a news conference on March 12, starting at midday.

In the February 24 parliamentary elections, the PSRM won 35 seats of MP, while the electoral bloc ACUM – 26 seats of the total 101.
