ACEEEO Secretary: It is not right to change Electoral Code between two elections in a manner that benefits parties in power
It is not right when the Government modifies the Electoral Code between two elections in a way that benefits the parties in power, the Secretary General of the Association of Central and Eastern European Election Officials (ACEEEO), Zoltan Toth said on July 14 during a news conference that marked the opening of a training seminar for election officials. The seminar is held in Chisinau between July 14 and 18, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Zoltan Toth, the role of the legal system in a country is to regulate the rules of competition over a long period of time. The ACEEEO official considers that besides training the staff, Moldova should create a solid and stable legal system. As to advertising, the candidates should enjoy equal chances during the election campaign.
The seminar will center on such subjects as: management of elections, legal stipulations on elections, settlement of contestations and litigations, cooperation with the civil society and mass media, aspects concerning electoral documents.
The event is organized with the financial assistance of the Government of Hungary and forms part of the actions stipulated in the strategy for training election officials and civically educating the voters for 2008-2013. It precedes the launch of the Continuous Training Center under the Central Election Commission. The seminar is supported by the Central Election Commission and the Association of Central and Eastern European Election Officials in cooperation with the Association for Participative Democracy ADEPT.
