The Prosecutor General’s Office said that besides the two counts formulated earlier – abuse of power and falsification of public documents, the suspended chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Viorel Morari was also charged with interference in prosecution. Also, the prosecutors asked to extend the warrant for his arrest for another 30 days. Viorel Morari is now held on remand at Penitentiary No. 13. He pleads not guilty.

That’s why “Magnitsky Act” is out of place...

The mentioning of the “Magnitsky Act” was missing from the PSRM-ACUM agrements, the initial one from June and next one from September 2019 respectively, said political researcher  Dionis Cenușa. This political dynamic has led to a significant deviation from the electoral promises made by ACUM bloc. In January 2020, a few months after the dismissing of the government of Maia Sandu and ACUM's exclusion from the government, the Platform DA returned to the topic of adoption of the "Magnitsky Law", he stated.

Ask, but time has passed already

A group of MPs of the PPPDA registered in Parliament a legislative proposal for adopting a declaration on the dropping of political cases started against persons persecuted by the oligarchic regime. The declaration asks for the public rehabilitation of persons who had been or continue to be victims of political repression. In at least 30 days of the adoption of the given declaration, the prosecutor general should present a synthesis report in Parliament on the state of political cases and of the victims of political repression.

Jordan Andrews, of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), said the INL invested almost US$ 25 million, including US$9 million during the last few years, in reforming the justice sector. Together with the partners from Moldova, the INL worked to develop the community police, built a forensic lab, organized training seminars for police officers, provided equipment. Now the foreign partners want to see more reforms during the next year.

Moldova’s wine exports in 2019 followed an upward trend, reaching a five-year high. According to the National Office of Vine and Wine, last year Moldova exported wine to 67 countries and the value of deliveries rose to over 3 million lei. The quiet wines generated 74% of all the revenues, the cognacs 20%, while the sparkling and fortified wines 3% each. Romania continued to be a strategic market and topped the rankings of countries that import Moldovan wine, both by the volume of exports and by the generated revenues.
