By 16.00 hours, 887,227 voters have participated in the elections, bringing the national voter turnout to roughly 37%, based on data provided by the Central Election Commission.
The highest participation rate was recorded in Floresti - 53.88%. In contrast, only 22.33% of Chisinau voters cast their ballots. In Cahul, 32.28% of the total number of voters took part in the elections, while in Gagauzia - 39.44%. The recent data about the voter turnout in Balti show a rate of 24.17%.
According to CEC, the voting process takes place without major irregularities. The situation remains unchanged in Corjova village, where the separatist forces entered by force into the polling station no.15/5 and do not allow people to vote.
In the May 25, 2003 general local elections the participation rate had been 43.44% at 16.00.
The polling stations will stay open until 21.00. In these local elections there are also allowed voters with expired identity cards, with the Soviet-type IDs and the men that serve alternative military service.
