A new party of the left appeared on the political arena of the Republic of Moldova. This is the Common Action Civic Congress Party whose constitution congress was held on December 8. The new party was founded by former Communist MPs Mark Tkachuk and Iurie Muntean.
They also don’t know who is “more powerful”
The National Unity Party (PUN) has a new president. This is MP Octavian Țîcu, who was elected leader at the party’s second extraordinary congress on December 7. The congress also chose the party’s former president Anatol Șalaru as secretary general of the PUN. Former President of Romania Traian Băsescu is the party’s president of honor.
Alongside Vlad Filat, PLDM returns “forcefully”?
The National Political Council of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) at a meeting on December 8 reiterated the party’s option to have a common agenda with all the pro-European parties so as to offer Moldova a democratic and European alternative. A statement adopted at the meeting says that after four years of intimidation and harassment, the PLDM is returning forcefully to the political arena.

The corruption tolerated and often encouraged by politicians, the bodies that should fight it and the people lies at the root of all the problems faced by Moldova. Despite the enormous assistance in fighting corruption received by our country from the development partners, Moldova didn’t make considerable headway in this direction. Some 24.6% of the respondents of a poll conducted by Transparency International - Moldova think the institution where they work is affected by corruption. 27.2% of those surveyed answered negatively, while 48.2% avoided answering the question. Among those who answered positively, the greatest corruption is perceived by the employees of the Customs Service (48%), the Border Police (45.8%) and the Ministry of the Interior (29.3%).

Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo instructed two groups of prosecutors to carry out complex inspections at the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases. Viorel Morari was suspended from the post of chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. Acting chairman of the Superior Council of Magistracy Dorel Musteață invited the President, Parliament Speaker and Prime Minister to discussions about the problems faced by the Council and the judicial system. He said he made a call to all the state powers given the existing impasse.
Giving a free hand
MP Mihai Popșoi resigned from the post of chairman of the commission of inquiry into the anticonstitutional putsch attempted by the Democratic Party through the agency of the Constitutional Court and the Prosecutor General’s Office. On a social networking site, Mihai Popșoi wrote he took such a decision because a new parliamentary majority was recently formed and the main players of the anticonstitutional putsch (ex-judges of the Constitutional Court) refused to come to the hearings.
