Taekwondo wrestler Aaron Cook was named best athlete of the year 2017 by the Sports Press Association of Moldova, IPN reports.

The naturalized athlete won bronze at the World Championship, ranked second at the Grand Prix of Moscow and third at the Grand Prix of London. Cook scored 1 710 points and outstripped European wrestling vice champion Mariana Cherdivara-Esanu (885 points) and bronze medalist at the European Boxing Championships Vasile Belous (651 points).

Freestyle wrestling coach Constantin Cobilean was named best coach of the year, while Sheriff Tiraspol best football team of 2017.
