A new political party was created in the Republic of Moldova. On Saturday, April 15 took place the 1st constituting Congress of the Social Equitableness Party from Moldova (PDSM). Chairman of the party was elected Dumitru Braghis. Dumitru Braghis, the leader of the initiative group, justified the appearance of the new party by the fact that at present in Moldova were not yet created political parties that could protect the interests of the citizens. Referring to the present situation of Moldova, Braghis declared that among the problems that concern the Moldavian society and impedes it to develop are poverty, corruption and bureaucracy, lack of well-paid jobs and the enormous difference between the high prices and small incomes of the population etc. PDSM announces that the fundamental priorities of its activity will be the problems of constituting a real democracy, inclusively in the areas of free mass-media, respecting human rights, reforming the judicial system etc. PDSM defines itself as a centre placed party and settles as an objective to participate at the local elections in 2007. Four persons were nominated for chairman of the party. With majority of votes Dumitru Braghis was finally elected as chairman. Dumitru Braghis was the eighth prime-minister of the Republic of Moldova, in the period December 1999 – April 2001 and was considered to be close to Petru Lucinschi. After the elections in February 2001, Braghis became a deputy on the lists of the Alianta Braghis party, that afterwards was renamed Alianta Social-Democrata (ASD). ASD contributed to forming the Moldova Democrata Bloc (BMD) that participated at the elections in March 2005. In the autumn of the same year, Braghis, with a group of BMD members, including members of the parliament flee this faction and afterwards announced that he will create a new party. At present, in Moldova 20 parties are officially registered, from which only 4 are represented in the Parliament.
