A new outbreak of swine fever. It is the farm in Cimiseni

A new outbreak of African swine fever has been recorded on a commercial farm in Cimiseni, Criuleni district. Representatives of the National Agency for Food Safety do not specify the number of heads, but the local press reports that 45,000 pigs are involved. The case comes a few days after the plague was confirmed at another pig farm in Roscani, Anenii Noi, where there were about 65,000 head of pigs, IPN reports.

ANSA reports that the presence of the virus was confirmed late last night following laboratory tests on samples taken from pigs suspected of the disease. The Emergency Situations Commission in the region was convened this morning and approved the necessary measures to eradicate the outbreak of swine fever and to prevent the spread of the disease outside the region.

The farm region has been isolated, quarantine measures have been introduced and protection and surveillance zones have been established. ANSA specialists, with the support of veterinarians and company employees, have put in place a plan of measures for the rapid eradication of the outbreak and a full assessment of the situation.

The experts point out that activities to eliminate outbreaks of this size are complex and usually take up to two to three weeks.

ANSA is calling for maximum responsibility from pig owners. In the event of signs of disease or the discovery of carcasses, they must urgently inform the territorial food safety subdivisions, veterinarians or local public authorities. Pig owners are also asked not to feed pigs on swill and to respect minimum biosecurity requirements.

A total of 31 outbreaks have been identified since the beginning of the year, of which 19 have been eradicated. All the damage and consequences are currently being assessed by the emergency committees in each region.

African Swine Fever is a highly contagious viral disease affecting domestic pigs and wild boars, but poses no danger to humans. However, it has a major impact on the livestock industry and the spread of outbreaks can lead to economic losses and disruption of pork supplies.
