A new arrest in Chisinau Public Health Center case

The accountant of a Chisinau company has been arrested by the National Anticorruption Center for 72 hours on bribery charges. The woman is suspected of offering undue money to employees at the Chisinau Public Health Center for a number of sanitary permits, including a construction permit for a restaurant.

NAC said in a press release that at present 32 people, both municipal sanitary employees and business representatives, have been brought charges against as part of a broad probe started in May 2018, and 13 of them are in custody.

The investigation has established that sanitary inspectors and even members of the the Public Health Center’s leadership systematically requested, personally or through middlemen, bribes or blackmail money from individuals and companies in return for permits or for closing their eyes to sanitary violations.

A total of 138 sets of criminal proceedings on bribery charges have been initiated in this case.
