A man died on a lit mattress from the stove

A man in the village of Cenac, Cimislia district, died of carbon monoxide poisoning after the mattress he was sleeping on caught fire from an overheated stove and ignited, IPN reports.

"Experts assume that the mattress smoldered due to the overheated stove and the 63-year-old man allegedly got carbon monoxide poisoning. The exact cause and circumstances are yet to be established", the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said.

Rescuers repeatedly warn the population to strictly observe fire prevention and safety rules when operating heating installations. Citizens are asked not to overload heating stoves and to ventilate rooms at all times. Exhaust flues must also not be blocked. To prevent fires, combustible materials and objects should be removed from the stove. At night, fires must be extinguished.

According to IGSU data, last year there were around 1660 fires in the country, in which more than a hundred people lost their lives, including three children. This year, there have been 19 fires, resulting in two deaths.
