A fine of 175 thousand lei for the chief accountant of a state enterprise

The chief accountant of the state enterprise „Center for the Training of Specialists for the National Army” was fined 175 000 lei for influence peddling. The court has also deprived her of the right to exercise the function of accountant in public or private institutions for a period of 5 years, IPN reports.

According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, in the period 2021-2022, the defendant threatened the administrators of two companies that will influence the termination of contracts or create difficulties in the conduct of business. They had tenancy agreements with the state institution and used the additional space of a real estate and a land that is not the object of the lease agreement.

In order to intervene in favor of the continuation of this illegal use, the accountant illegally requested and received from the two administrators amounts ranging from 1500 to 2500 lei. In addition, it forwarded part of the money received to another employee of the institution, in order to influence him not to interfere in the illegal use of the goods. The woman kept part of the amounts received.

The Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office states that the criminal investigation lasted six months, and the trial of the case - two and a half years. The defendant pleaded not guilty during the trial. The money means in the amount of 13 300 lei, recognized as a delict body, were forcibly transferred to the state account.

Also today, the Prosecutor's Office announces another conviction sentence for influence peddling. It is about a lawyer who was fined 80 thousand lei and deprived of the right to practice law for five years. This was after the defender claimed the amount of 11 000 euros, of which she actually received, in a few instalments, almost 7 thousand euros. She claimed to have influence on the criminal investigation officer of the Centru Police Inspectorate, the head of the criminal investigation body of IP Centru, the, of the prosecutor who had in charge a criminal case regarding the whistleblower. The latter was charged with the crime of falsifying evidence in a civil lawsuit and against experts from the National Center for Judicial Expertise. In exchange for the money, the lawyer promised that she could influence the favorable settlement of the criminal case.

The prosecution lasted only three months, and the trial of the case was almost 10 years, the criminal case being redistributed five times to other judges for various reasons. The defendant pleaded not guilty during the trial, but the court appreciated the probation administered and established her guilt.

In both cases the sentences are appealable.
