"A catastrophic picture": Transnistria assesses the aftermath of the energy crisis

More than 4,000 employees of major industrial enterprises have lost their jobs, the region's "exports" fell by 60% in January, and the production volume at the beginning of 2025 nearly halved compared to the same period last year, reports IPN.

The leader of the self-proclaimed republic, Vadim Krasnoselski, stated that in some sectors, "the situation is simply catastrophic": machine building and metal processing dropped by 65%, the light industry saw a decline of 73.5%, ferrous metallurgy indicators fell by 87%, and the chemical industry decreased by 91%.

The region's exports (excluding energy resources) in January 2025 were 37.6% lower than in 2024.

Imports decreased by 24%, and the export decline is visible across nearly all sectors: chemical products (91.3%), textiles (83%), metals (82.5%), clothing (48.8%), food products (40.1%), and footwear (34.15%).

The budget losses of the self-proclaimed republic from customs payments were 9 million rubles higher than the projected volume.

In February, based on January's performance, the region's budget revenues are expected to drop by approximately 40%.

"That's the kind of post-crisis math we have," Krasnoselski concluded.
