Sixty-five dead swans were found on the bank of the Raut River, in Floresti district. Experts suspect the swans had bird flu, IPN reports.
Concerned about possible consequences for public health, local authorities constituted an intervention team to manage the situation and take preventive measures. The investigation into this case continues. Residents in the area are warned to avoid contact with dead birds and to report any unusual observations or symptoms to local authorities.
Avian influenza can also be transmitted to humans. That is why it is important to obey the veterinary hygiene rules in domestic fowl and animal shelters, wash the hands with warm water and soap after each contact with birds, wash contaminated surfaces and use antiseptics and disinfectants to destroy the influenza virus. Poultry, eggs and poultry meat products should be purchased only from authorized retail outlets.
