The state prosecutors have finalized the presentation of evidence in the case against the bashkan Evghenia Gutul and the secretary of the Central Office of the former political party Shor. They are accused of complicity in the illegal financing of the political party and an electoral contestant by an organized criminal group, IPN reports.
The 68-volume criminal case was sent to court on April 23, 2024. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office says that in 54 court sessions, more than 20 witnesses were heard, material evidence contained in 66 volumes was investigated and more than 40 information carriers were examined with the results of special investigative measures.
Defense evidence will be examined next.
The evidence administered by the PA, the National Anti-Corruption Center and the Intelligence and Security Service covers the period of 2019-2022, when Evghenia Gutul was working as a secretary in the Department for Monitoring, Planning and Control of the declared unconstitutional party.
At that time she was allegedly actively involved in the systematic introduction of unaccounted funds into the Republic of Moldova. The money would come from an organized criminal group, mainly from the Russian Federation, through air and land routes. The money was subsequently integrated into the party's activity in order to support its activity in the political arena in Moldova.
On another count, Evghenia Gutul, as an accomplice, between October 2022 and November 2022, coordinated the activity of territorial offices of the former Shor party in the districts of the Republic of Moldova. She is accused of knowingly accepting political party funding from an organized criminal group in the total amount of about 42.5 million lei.
Evghenia Gutu pleads not guilty.
