47 babies born on the first day of 2025

Forty-seven babies, including 22 girls and 25 boys, were born on January 1 in medical institutions across the country. Most births took place at the Balti Clinical Hospital, where nine babies were delivered, and at the Institute of Mother and Child, where six babies were born, the Health Ministry said in a response to a press request by IPN. At the same time, the number of babies born in 2019-2023 is continuously decreasing.

In the list of institutions where the most births were registered on January 1 is the Cahul District Hospital and the Gheorghe Paladi Municipal Clinical Hospital, where four and three babies were born, respectively.

Data provided to IPN Agency by the Health Ministry show a decrease in the number of babies born in recent years in Moldova. In 2019, 32 591 babies were born, in 2020 - 30 983, 2021 - 26 365, 2022 - 27 047, 2023 - 24 169.

In the first seven months of last year, the civil status bodies of the Public Services Agency registered 11 536 newborns, including 5 957 boys and 5 579 girls.

As of January 1, 2025, the single childbirth allowance was increased by 1 350 lei, constituting 21 350 lei. The allowance is granted for each child born, provided that the child is registered with the competent subdivision of the Public Services Agency.
