The remains of thirty-five Soviet soldiers will be reburied on April 13 at the Șerpeni Memorial with full military honors, as part of festivities to mark the 75th anniversary of Moldova’s liberation from fascist occupation. The program of events was discussed today by President Igor Dodon and the National Coordinating Committee “Victoria”.
Committee president Alexei Petrovici told IPN the remains were unearthed from fields and woods in the districts of Anenii Noi and Ștefan Vodă during exhumation expeditions organized between September 2018 and April 2019. In addition to the military ceremony, a religious service will also be officiated.
The President’s Office said in a press release that the commemorative agenda also includes renovation of the Eternity Memorial and Liberation Monument in Chisinau. On May 9, an Immortal Regiment procession will be held, in addition to a concert and a display of military hardware.
