3 City Hall barristers banned to represent Chisinau Council in courts

Three employees of the Legal Assistance Direction, including its chief Diana Gurschi, may not represent the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) in courts, the CMC decided Thursday, November 13. The idea came from the Communist faction leader Svetlana Popa and was backed by 28 councilors. The direction chief calls the decision politically-minded, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communique by PR Direction of the Chisinau City Hall, the other two lawyers are Victor Morgoci and Valentina Urecheanu. Svetlana Popa reasoned her proposal through a letter from the Chisinau Appellate Court judge Elena Gligor, who criticizes the performance of the CMC's lawyers. The letter does not give names or lawsuits, and the lawyers were selected without any explanation, the release reads. In her turn, the Legal Direction head says the CMC's lawyers have won over 80% of trials this year. Moldova Noastra Alliance councilor Oleg Cernei said 80% of the CMC's decisions have been sued, after Eduard Musuc became CMC chairman. Victor Morgoci represents mayor Dorin Chirtoaca in courts. The judge Elena Gligor inquired into the case in which Dorin Chirtoaca asked to cancel the decisions of 6 June replacing Liberal president Mihai Ghimpu with Social-Democrat Eduard Musuc.
