The year 2016 as it was seen by the people of Moldova. Meeting them in different places – at the market, in the church, at school and in the street, we asked them to tell us about the things that marked them. 

        For me, 2016 was a rather good year. I’m preparing for the Baccalaureate. I’m satisfied with the new conditions. They are stricter, but make you more responsible. I had both accomplishments and problems. We hope 2017 will bring more success and less disappointment. Next year I must definitely pass the Baccalaureate exam. I want to apply to the university and hope I will succeed.

       Compared with other years, this year was slightly better after so many conflicts among the senior state officials. The people are dissatisfied. It’s no longer easy. If the people think about all the unpleasant things witnessed, how can they feel happy?  They cannot. The situation is tense. We don’t know what to expect tomorrow. The change must be brought about the Government.

Ion Ustica, employee

        For me, it was a difficult year as the salary is small, while the services are expensive. We expect things will improve. We do not yet anticipate many improvements now that the lawmakers passed the law to increase the retirement age.

Maria Bodrug, employee

       In 2015, I lost my mother, but good people from the Republic of Moldova helped me not to get lost. They believed in me and in my projects. Now I have a small business. In 2017 I want something to change in our country because the people leave. For example, the public utilities are very expensive and the tariffs should be reviewed. Surely, the Republic of Moldova should become known not only as a state that provides labor, but also from industrial viewpoint. It’s known that it has hospitable people.

Andrei Maximenco, self-employed

        The year was good, fortunate. I do not usually have big, unachievable plans and the year was thus successful. Everything was fine. I hope I will achieve what I aspire to in 2017. Each year we do by a little so as to obtain what we want at a certain moment. My biggest wish is to have my own home.

Olga Nicolai, employee

       At my age, the necessities are smaller and I do not claim something more. I’m satisfied with what I have. If things continue the same way, I will be very satisfied. I would like God to clear the minds of our rulers next year so that they do not take the people to poverty, which would be hard to overcome, and bypass this road. The young generations should leave vainglory aside and start to study as we will manage to do something by work only.

Grigore Cosniceanu, pensioner

        It was a good year for me. I’m healthy and work and it is thus good. I hope I will be healthy and will continue to work next year. The rulers should think about the people too, not only about themselves.

       It was a successful year. I had a lot of success in my career of artist. I took part in many contests. My dream to become a student of the Music College “Stefan Neaga” became true and I hope 2017 will be even better.

Mariela Sainciuc, student

        It was a year without major changes. I reached the deserved retirement. It was nothing special. I hoped to find a job, but the elderly people are regrettably unwanted. It is a big problem. I understand that it is a problem for the young people too, but it is harder for the elderly people. But this is how things stand. I have big expectations of next year. I expect more jobs will be available to the young people first of all and to the elder ones too.
