Each fifth applicant for running in the elections to choose deputies on the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia openly shows the political affiliation, the president of the local Central Election Commission Ivan Comur was quoted by the local press as saying, IPN reports.
The portal GagauzInfo said each fifth applicant stated their political affiliation, most of these being Socialists. The others run independently.
“Of the 137 aspirants, 28 represent parties. One candidate represents the Democratic Party, two the Party of Communists, seven the Our Party, while 18 the Party of Socialists, Thus, about 20% represent parties, while the rest are independents,” stated Ivan Comur.
The members of the local Central Election Commission of Gagauzia approved the regulations concerning the method of compiling and managing electoral rolls. Thus, the inhabitants of Gagauzia will be able to vote only at the polling places where they are registered.
