16 cases of Omicron reported in Moldova. Two-month-old baby among those infected

Sixteen cases of COVID-19 Omicron variant were confirmed by laboratory tests in Moldova, Nicolae Jelamschi, director of the National Public Health Agency, told a news conference, being quoted by IPN.

As a result of sequencing, the presence of Omicron was detected in 10% of the examined samples. Most probably, there is the same percentage of cases of infection among the population, stated the director.

The 16 cases of Omicron were confirmed in 11 men and five women. Among those infected are a pregnant woman and a baby aged two months. Twelve of the Omicron cases were recorded in the municipality of Chisinau.

Of the 16 persons who tested positive for Omicron, nine are unvaccinated. Eight persons self-isolate at home with mild forms or without symptoms, while eight are in the hospital. Two cases are moderate to severe.
